Best Databases MCP Servers
Database integrations let an assistant work with structured records through a defined tool interface. Some servers specialize in a particular database engine, while others sit in front of a hosted data service. Common evaluation tasks include discovering available tables, understanding schemas, and retrieving a bounded set of records. Do not assume that a server is read only simply because its examples show SELECT queries; inspect its configuration and the database account it uses.
For an initial trial, create a dedicated account with the smallest practical permissions and use a nonproduction dataset. Check how connection strings and credentials are supplied, whether query results are limited, and what happens when an operation takes too long. Network exposure matters too: a local process may still be able to reach private databases. Consider whether returned rows contain personal or confidential information that should not enter the assistant's context. Compare engine support, transport options, and maintenance history, but make authorization the first filter. A server can simplify access without replacing the database's own permission model or your team's review process.
