Overview

DEVONthink's current database and selected records are accessible alongside listings of open databases and group contents. Text search can target a database or group, while attribute lookups use exact matches such as filenames, tags, or content hashes. Records can also be retrieved by UUID, ID, or a DEVONthink reference URL. To add material, users can create notes, bookmarks, and groups, capture web URLs in supported formats, or import local files and folders. Imports without a destination go to the global Inbox.

Organization tools cover moving, renaming, deleting, tagging, and editing record content or properties. Replication places a record in another group within its database, while duplication makes an independent copy; format conversion creates a new record. Classification returns scored suggestions for groups or tags, and comparison tools find similar records or examine a pair. Document AI tools support questions, analysis, and extraction, plus summary documents drawn from multiple sources. AI service availability can be checked separately. The integration uses stdio for MCP communication and controls DEVONthink through JavaScript for Automation and AppleScript APIs.
