Best Memory & Knowledge MCP Servers
Memory and knowledge servers help assistants revisit information across tasks. A project may store notes, expose a knowledge graph, search a document collection, or retrieve context from an existing knowledge service. These approaches solve different problems. Saving a fact for later is not the same as finding a passage in a large corpus, and neither automatically guarantees that the information remains current. Match the integration to the way your team creates, updates, and removes knowledge.
Before adopting a server, examine where information is stored and who can retrieve it. Check whether records retain their source, how updates replace older material, and how deletion works. If an integration uses embeddings or an external service, verify those requirements in its documentation rather than assuming storage is entirely local. Test retrieval with both relevant and misleading queries to understand what reaches the assistant. Shared knowledge also needs access boundaries: private notes should not become global context by accident. Compare setup effort and maintenance activity, while giving particular attention to provenance, retention, and the ability to correct stale or mistaken entries.
