Overview

Notion maintenance tasks such as revising a specification, filtering a task database, or creating a page from a template can be handled from MCP clients including Claude Desktop, Cursor, and VS Code. The connector supports reading and updating page Markdown, appending blocks, posting comments, and uploading files. Database query results are flattened, while responses omit extra SDK detail by default; a verbose option returns the raw response.

Work runs through notion_execute, which accepts an operation name and either an individual payload or a batch. For complex inputs, notion_describe supplies the operation's JSON Schema and an example. Malformed payloads also produce schema guidance for correction. Batch operations support concurrency and idempotency keys, with an atomic mode that stops at a failure and attempts to archive entities created earlier. Rate-limit retries are built in. Authentication uses a personal access token or an internal integration secret, supporting unattended execution. Personal tokens follow the user's permissions; internal integrations need explicit access to the pages or databases they use.

notion-mcp-server setup notes

  • notion-mcp-server records stdio only; confirm a network transport upstream before planning remote access.
