Overview

Tableau content discovery can start with filtered lists of projects, workbooks, views, and data sources, or with search-content to rank matches by relevance or viewing activity. Search returns a ranked subset rather than an exhaustive inventory. For data questions, get-datasource-metadata combines VizQL Data Service information with Metadata API context to describe the source model, fields, and parameters. Developers can use that context before running queries with aggregation, filters, grouping, and sorting against published sources.

Workbook and view tools provide metadata, filtered CSV data, and static images, with separate retrieval tools for saved custom views. Dashboard CSV requests cover only the first view. Pulse workflows can start from metric definitions, specific metrics, or the current user's subscriptions, then retrieve the associated metric and definition records. Using complete metric and definition details, applications can request insight bundles covering current values, period comparisons, trends, and top contributors. Conversational insight briefs can answer natural language questions, summarize metric data, or provide recommendations, with optional dialogue context for follow-up questions.
