Tdmcp MCP Server

TouchDesigner artists and musicians can use tdmcp to turn visual descriptions into editable node networks through an MCP-capable assistant. Its tools cover generative and audio-reactive visuals, live controls, error checks and previews.

Overview

Feedback effects, particle systems and audio-reactive scenes can start as prompts to Claude, Cursor or Codex. tdmcp routes the assistant's actions through a bridge inside TouchDesigner, where tools create operators, connect nodes and change parameters. Embedded operator references and workflow guides inform those choices. Error inspection and thumbnail previews let the assistant examine the result and revise the network, while lower-level tools provide access to individual nodes, wiring and parameter modes.

For live performance, control panels expose adjustable parameters, presets store settings, and cues support timed transitions between looks. OSC and MIDI input/output, plus DMX output, connect visuals with external controllers and lighting. Read-only preflight reports combine node errors, cook-time budgets, display information and perform-mode status for rehearsal or handoff. Export tools save still frames or record movies; snapshots and generated documentation capture network structure for review. The bridge supports arbitrary Python execution and listens on all network interfaces; the documentation advises authentication or disabling execution endpoints on untrusted networks.

tdmcp setup notes

  • tdmcp records stdio only; confirm a network transport upstream before planning remote access.
  • tdmcp has no recorded license; confirm reuse terms in its repository.
