Overview
Biomedical searches can start with PubMed queries constrained by author, journal, publication dates, or MeSH vocabulary. Spell checking and MeSH lookup help refine those queries, while relationship searches retrieve similar papers, references, or articles citing a chosen PMID. Europe PMC adds coverage of preprints, patents, and Agricola records. Its search results can lead to a separate record fetch for complete abstracts, including records without PubMed identifiers. PubMed metadata retrieval supplies abstracts, author details, journal information, and optional grant or MeSH data.
Full-text retrieval accepts a PMID, PMCID, or DOI and tries PMC before Europe PMC. An optional Unpaywall step can retrieve open-access copies when configured with an email address. Results report where text came from and provide structured reasons when it cannot be retrieved. Citation tools produce APA, MLA, Vancouver, BibTeX, or RIS output and match incomplete bibliographic references to PMIDs. Identifier conversion connects DOIs, PMIDs, and PMCIDs, but only for articles indexed in PubMed Central. A research-planning prompt supplies an outline for biomedical investigation.
