Octocode MCP Server

Package research can begin with an npm lookup that identifies the source repository, then move into GitHub searches for repositories, paths, or code. Octocode MCP also provides directory browsing and file retrieval, including selected regions rather than only whole files. Pull request inspection exposes files, diffs, and reviews; issue searches surface reports and discussions. Commit history can be filtered by path, date, or author to investigate implementation changes. GitHub access uses existing GitHub CLI authentication and permissions.

Local investigation starts with directory trees, file discovery by name or metadata, and searches using text, regular expressions, or AST patterns. File readers offer symbol outlines and focused regions for examining relevant code. With a file and line located, LSP queries can inspect definitions, references, call relationships, type hierarchies, and diagnostics. Repository-wide reachability analysis highlights potentially unused exports and unreachable code clusters. Those results are candidates for further reference checks, rather than automatic proof that code can be removed.
