Overview

Web research in comet-mcp centers on delegating a prompt to Perplexity Comet from Claude Code or another MCP client. The comet_connect tool establishes the browser connection and can start Comet when needed. With comet_ask, the client submits a task and waits for the finished response. The documented uses include research and interactions with pages that involve login walls, dynamic content, or form filling. The bridge communicates with Comet through CDP and exposes its MCP connection over stdio.

Task supervision uses comet_poll to inspect agent status and progress, while comet_stop interrupts the active task. A client can request an image of the current page with comet_screenshot. The comet_mode tool selects search, research, labs, or learn: these cover basic searching, deeper research, analytics and visualization, and educational use. Calling it without a mode reports the current selection. Setup requires Node.js 18 or later, the Comet browser, and an MCP client; the documented browser launch enables remote debugging.

comet-mcp setup notes

  • comet-mcp records stdio only; confirm a network transport upstream before planning remote access.
  • comet-mcp has no recorded license; confirm reuse terms in its repository.
