Overview

From individual files to pull request changes, codex-as-mcp lets developers use Codex for review work through clients such as Claude Code and Cursor. Its codex_review tool combines prompts tailored to the review scenario with optional instructions for a particular concern. Review scopes include selected files, staged edits, unstaged edits, commit ranges, pull requests, and a general codebase assessment. A general review can cover the whole project or a specified directory, while staged and unstaged reviews find the relevant changes without a target argument.

For tasks outside those review scenarios, codex_execute accepts a prompt and a working directory for general Codex execution. Review calls also use a working directory and return detailed results. Setup involves installing and logging into Codex CLI, then configuring a stdio MCP connection. Operation is read-only by default, with a separate writable mode for tasks that need it. Agent operations run sequentially rather than in parallel.
