Overview

Revisiting a Cursor project can start with a list of recent chat sessions, including their workspaces, message counts, and timestamps. From there, cursor-history-mcp can open an individual conversation to show messages, tool calls, and assistant replies. Keyword or phrase searches span the history and return surrounding context for matches. The project reads Cursor's SQLite database locally and uses text matching rather than embedding-based retrieval. A session can also be exported in Markdown or JSON.

For keeping or relocating that history, the backup tool creates a portable archive, while migration lets users move or copy sessions between workspaces. Restoring a backup overwrites the current history; moving a session removes the original. The documentation recommends making a backup before these destructive operations. The year-in-review workflow uses a read-only tool to produce sanitized JSON containing statistics, topics, and keywords, alongside a prompt template for generating an LLM-based report. Configuration examples cover Claude Code and Claude Desktop.
