Before you start: ArXiv in VS Code

Replace the example storage path with your paper directory. Install the [pdf] extra for PDF-only papers. The README also documents uvx and HTTP launch options.

ArXiv VS Code configuration

1. Choose VS Code configuration scope

   For ArXiv MCP Server, open Workspace: .vscode/mcp.json. Merge into servers; preserve existing inputs.

2. Add ArXiv MCP Server to VS Code

   Use the arxiv-mcp-server entry below in servers. Keep ArXiv MCP Server's documented stdio connection fields and your other VS Code entries.

3. Check ArXiv MCP Server in VS Code

Troubleshooting ArXiv in VS Code

• Make uv available in the workspace, container, or remote environment hosting ArXiv MCP Server. Start through VS Code's MCP controls; inspect output and trust prompts.
• ArXiv MCP Server uses stdio here: VS Code must keep the configured process running; protocol output belongs on stdout and diagnostics on stderr.
• Known limitation: PDF-only papers need the additional PDF dependency extra.
• Known limitation: Local semantic search is experimental and requires extra dependencies.
